My name is Peter Alyanak and I’m currently a student at Durham College. I’ll be graduating from the “Horticulture – Food & Farming” program in April 2018. I sought out horticulture programs two years ago with the specific goal of using the ensuing diploma to qualify for potential future programs based on commercial cannabis production. I was elated to discover the Commercial Cannabis Production program scheduled for Sept 2018, at which point I will have graduated with the horticulture diploma needed as a pre-requisite.
I’ve always been passionate about helping patients in need of relief and pursuing a career in legal production/distribution of medical cannabis so when I saw an opportunity to pursue this path I jumped at it immediately. My experiences at Durham College have been extremely positive yet due to the current legality of this industry and the regulations surrounding it my education regarding Cannabis production has been limited to reading on my own and the odd mention during lectures.
I’d be extremely grateful for the opportunity to get my hands dirty through applied learning techniques and fieldwork made possible only through a commercial cannabis production college course. Currently there is no way for me to do this without breaking the law (which I refuse to do). I take pride in hard work and love the feeling of accomplishment I get when my hard work pays off. I never give up and I always make an effort to go the extra mile. With the looming need for expertise in this industry you can be assured I’m going to take this opportunity, run with it, and never look back. This is what I’m going to do regardless so hopefully I can get the head start I’d like by being accepted into this program. Thank you.
